Folks Are Strange
11" x 14" oil on paper from the new Amalfi series. This scene is taken from ou trip to the Blue Grotto in Capri. These boats are full of people waiting their turn to pass thorugh the world's smallest opening into a gorgeous cave that reflects brilliant blues. The gondolier dudes totally sang classic songs while paddling us around. Did they get insanely outrageous tips because of this? You bet they did. I'm clearly in the wrong line of work. I should be paddling Americans around in a small cave and singing for my living :). These pieces are part of an experimental series where I revisited representational work and played with different styles and techniques. So many hours and love and care have gone into each painting, capturing the dreamy island feel of the coast of Italy. Each piece is different and is part of my process to keep my work fresh and do the work that speaks to me. Will I do a series like this again soon? I'm not sure!! I just have to keep painting the images that keep me alive. Who knows what's coming next!
